Aim Hometown Innovations Podcast: Episode 4

by Aim Admin | Nov 16, 2017 | Legislators, Media, Members

Helping urban educators live close to where they work by making homeownership more affordable is the goal behind Indianapolis’ new Teachers’ Village launched by Mayor Joe Hogsett this month.

The project aims to reduce teacher turnover, with city data showing Indianapolis Public Schools lose nearly 400 teachers a year. Teachers within IPS and mayoral-sponsored charter schools who meet certain income requirements would be eligible for financial incentives to drive down a home’s cost.

In all, 20 new and rehabbed homes just east of downtown will be available through the Teachers’ Village.

We sat down with Mayor Hogsett and other stakeholders to learn more about this innovative project for this episode of Aim Hometown Innovations podcast.
