Local Decision Making

Aim believes that government services are best delivered when cities and towns self-govern in a manner that meets the needs of their citizens. That’s because local municipal leaders have the best vantage point, in conjunction with our citizens, to make smart decisions about economic development, quality of place, revenue options, infrastructure, transportation, zoning, public safety, and so much more.

Municipal officials, their constituents, business leaders, and philanthropists forge partnerships and trust as they work cooperatively to move their communities forward. Removing decision making from municipalities undermines the time, money, and commitment invested at the local level to ensure a community is moving forward in the manner desired and expected by the affected stakeholders. While lawmakers and municipal officials often serve the same constituents, the perspective of each is often quite different. Aim advocates that matters affecting municipalities be decided within those municipalities.
