FRENCH LICK – Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim) named Whiting’s WhoaZone at Whihala Beach as the 2019 Green Project of the Year. Whiting received the award on August 28 during the Aim Annual Awards Luncheon, presented by Baker Tilly, at the 2019 Aim Ideas Summit in French Lick.
Whiting earned the award for the WhoaZone, which is a nature-based destination along Lake Michigan. The WhoaZone is a floating water park comprised of slides, trampolines, towers, wiggle bridges and more.
“The WhoaZone connects Hoosiers to one of the state’s greatest natural resources in a fun way,” Aim CEO Matt Greller said. “Cities and towns are dedicated to promoting a high quality of life through strategies that harness their community’s strengths. In Whiting that dedication is evident in the WhoaZone and so many other projects.”
Aim launched the Green Communities Initiative in 2008 in conjunction with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC, to identify potential cost savings to communities facing budget shortfalls, promote economically competitive quality-of-life concepts, and ultimately serve as role models for citizens while better protecting our environment. The initiative has expanded educational opportunities for municipalities. Every year the program honors one outstanding project, which exemplifies the program’s ideals.
