Schererville Clerk-Treasurer named 2019 Financial Management Award Winner

by Aim Admin | Aug 29, 2019 | Media, Members, Press Release

FRENCH LICK – Janice Malinowski, clerk-treasurer of Schererville, received the 2019 Financial Management Award from Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim). Malinowski received the award on August 28 during the Presidents’ Reception at the 2019 Aim Ideas Summit.

The Financial Management Award is given to a finance officer or administrator who has made outstanding achievements in fiscal management, financial recording and leadership in public service.

Malinowski, elected as Schererville’s clerk-treasurer in 1995, was nominated by a group of clerk-treasurers from Northwest Indiana and a town councilman for the strength she’s shown in improving her community’s financial position. The nominators noted that Malinowski is respected and warmly regarded across the political spectrum for her professionalism and commitment to the craft of public finance. In addition to her work as clerk-treasurer, Malinowski has held leadership positions with the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers.

“The work of public-sector fiscal officers goes to the very foundations of our communities,” Aim CEO Matt Greller said. “Janice is a dedicated public servant who has worked tirelessly over the years to place the Town of Schererville in a strong financial position. Her work is evident in the balanced budgets she’s helped produce and her success in securing funding for countless community improvements.”

In its 43rd year, the Aim Annual Awards program, presented by Baker Tilly, recognizes communities and individuals in municipal government for excellence and outstanding achievement. A nine-member panel of qualified judges selected this year’s winners from a competitive field of nominees from around the state.
