FRENCH LICK – Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim) announced Evansville has been awarded an Aim Community Program Innovation Award for their Reopen Evansville Task Force initiative. The city was honored with this award on October 6 during the Annual Awards Luncheon – presented by Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors, LLC during the 2021 Aim Ideas Summit in French Lick. Evansville won in the greater than 100,000 population category.
The Reopen Evansville Task Force was a comprehensive, community effort to address pandemic-related challenges impacting Evansville. The Task Force worked and continues to work with community partners to aid in the following areas: business assistance, quality of life, government operations, workplace safety and testing, food security, and communication. Program highlights include restart grants for local businesses, a PPE marketplace, a mobile vaccination clinic, mask distribution to schools, businesses, and organizations, and free legal advice via Facebook Live.
“What I admire most about the Reopen Evansville initiative is the laser-like focus they had on the basic needs of the community. Grants to small businesses, addressing food insecurity, vaccinations, legal advice, and more. The Reopen Evansville Task Force considered the entire spectrum of personal and business needs resulting from the pandemic,” said Aim CEO Matt Greller.
