Aim Announces Fishers, Westfield and Whiting as 2018 Green Communities of the Year

by Aim Admin | Oct 3, 2018 | Awards, Legislators, Media, Members, Press Release

FRENCH LICK – Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim) announced that three Indiana cities have achieved Aim Green Community of the Year distinctions.  The cities of Fishers, Westfield and Whiting received their awards during the Aim Annual Awards Luncheon presented by Umbaugh, Oct. 3, during the 2018 Aim Ideas Summit in French Lick.

Aim launched the Green Communities Initiative in 2008 in conjunction with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC, to identify potential cost savings to communities facing budget shortfalls, promote economically competitive quality of life concepts, and ultimately serve as role models for citizens while better protecting our environment. The initiative has expanded educational opportunities for municipalities.

“I’m impressed when leaders at the municipal level place a high priority on sustainability. Providing quality infrastructure, public safety, code enforcement, parks, and other public services are what we traditionally think of as local issues.  More and more municipal leaders see a broader role, one that promotes the health and long-term viability of their communities,” said Aim CEO Matt Greller.

Representatives from participating cities had to fill out an extensive survey in the areas of purchasing, operations, measuring success, and sample projects. Not only did Fishers, Westfield and Whiting meet the minimum score required to be a Green Community, they earned the highest score in their population category to become a 2018 Aim Green Community of the Year.

50,000 or Greater Population Category – Fishers
10,000 – 50,000 Population Category – Westfield
10,000 or Less Population Category – Whiting
